Chesterfield Chiropractor : Dr. Darryl Oblack

Karate, Chiropractic and the many different interactions of the body

I was a photojournalist for a small daily newspaper in Pennsylvania and carried 40 pounds of cameras and equipment over my shoulder everywhere I went. I chased fire trucks, stalked the sidelines of football fields looking for that special shot, sometimes got hit blindside by the players and all this was very hard on my body. I also spent nine years studying Karate that taught me there were many different interactions of the body that didn’t seem to fit with the thought of western medicine. I started seeing a chiropractor and found great relief from many of my symptoms.

After 14 years at the newspaper I was tired and thought I needed a new direction in my career. I was speaking at a career day at branch campus of Penn State and while I was talking to students about photography, I was standing on my toes looking at the other professions represented. I saw the chiropractor talking and it occurred to me that I could do that. I researched it and decided that that was the career for me.

When I decided to leave my job as a photographer, I took a weeks vacation and went to tour four chiropractic colleges. I choose to attend Logan College of Chiropractic because I was impressed by its facilities especially the Science and Research Center. I had a great deal of training is chemistry before becoming a photographer and the sciences at Logan struck a chord with me.

I was exposed to a different type of chiropractic than I had ever seen

As I began training a fellow student approached me and suggested that she felt I would excel in an unusual technique in chiropractic called Soft Tissue Orthopedics (STO) a specific set of treatment protocols as part of Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT). I attended a weekend seminar and was exposed to a completely different type of chiropractic than I had ever seen before.

With all my science background I thought I would be a very traditional chiropractor but this stuff was completely different. With all those years of abusing my body and eating all the wrong foods my body was not functioning right. One symptom of that was elevated triglyceride levels. Normal range is 40 – 160 mg/dl; my levels started at over 1000 and through diet, exercise and chiropractic they had dropped to a still high of 700 mg/dl. With The STO treatments my levels dropped to around 300 mg/dl.

This remarkable change in my health began my study of SOT. STO and many other less known forms of complimentary and alternative treatments including acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy and Homotoxicology.

I graduated in 1995 from Logan College of Chiropractic and have taken post-grad training in Acupuncture, insurance claims review and have additional licenses in those areas.

At Natural Health and Healing Center

I believe that partnerships are formed with my patients from Chesterfield and the surrounding community. The patient has a goal they want to achieve in their life. We talk about what options I can provide in the way of stimulus and support to the body that it may heal itself to obtain their goal. The fun thing in our office is that many of our patients have goals that are not just pain related.

Away from the Practice

I met and married my wife Patty in 1997. She has 2 daughters from a previous marriage and we have 2 grandchildren. Patty is artist and we spend a great deal of our time looking at various arts and traveling to galleries.

I see several different people for treatment. I see one chiropractor every three weeks or more often if I feel the need. I see another chiropractor who once a month to have specific cranial adjusting done. I see another chiropractor for acupuncture treatment every few months or more often if I think I need his services for specific conditions. I see a therapist certified in Structural Integration Rolf Method every 2 weeks. Any condition or ailment I or any member of my family has is first treated with chiropractic, acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Formulas, Herbal remedies, or Homeopathy before anything else.
